Regulatory and Inspection Reports
REGULATORY
The Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 came into effect on April 11, 2022. The Act is the legislation that regulates Ontario’s long-term care home sector.
INSPECTIONS
The Province of Ontario is committed to fix long-term care by conducting annual pro-active inspections in homes. The inspection process is to ensure every resident experiences the safest and best quality of life and is intended to increase accountability, enforcement, and transparency in the sector.
Pro-active inspections add to the current program of responding to complaints and critical incidents. The proactive inspections program assists the government and long-term care homes in identifying and resolving problems to improve the quality of care provided to residents. The program uses a resident-centred approach by allowing for direct discussion with residents, to focus on their care needs as well as the home’s program and services.
