Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Care, this role provides oversight, implementation, and leadership for the Ministry of Long-Term Care – Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Standard, staff development, and ongoing staff education. The role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and implementation of standards, policies and procedures, and best practices, with adherence to the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (2021) and ON Regulation 246/22 and all other relevant Legislation.

Please note that this is an existing, non-union position.

Overview of Duties:

IPAC Lead

  • Lead, coordinate, and implement Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures, and practices for all departments
  • Participate in ongoing infection surveillance program and lead outbreak management in consultation with the local public health unit and Senior Nursing and Medical Leadership
  • Perform regular infection surveillance and prepare reports as required
  • Educate staff on the principles and practices of Infection Prevention and Control and act as a resource for all staff from all departments
  • Lead, implement, and track Vaccination Campaigns for residents and staff as required by provincial legislation
  • Plan, develop, and deliver IPAC training and education for current and new employees in accordance with legislation and standards
  • Perform quarterly and annual IPAC program assessment and implement strategies for ongoing Quality Improvement
  • Monitor staff compliance with IPAC standards and legislation
  • Analyze and report infection trends and risk factors and evaluate prevention and control strategies
  • Lead Outbreak response in collaboration with the local public health unit and as per Ministry of Long-Term Care Legislation
  • Engage in ongoing IPAC Education and collaboration with community partners
  • Participate in resident Care Conferences

Clinical Nurse Educator

  • In collaboration with DOC develop and deliver comprehensive Orientation/Education package for newly hired RNs, RPNs, and PSWs
  • Regularly evaluate and identify RN, RPN, and PSW educational needs and develop and deliver ongoing education
  • Perform quarterly and annual Staff Education program assessment and analysis and implement strategies for ongoing Quality Improvement
  • Lead Mandatory Committees such as IPAC, Continence, and other Committees as required
  • Other projects and duties as required per Director of Care

Qualifications:

  • Current unrestricted RN or RPN Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada and/or have a valid current work permit
  • Certification in Infection Control/Infection Prevention (CIC/IPC) or Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP) or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years’ experience in the health sector as an RN or RPN
  • Experience working in long-term care settings as well as knowledge of legislation applicable to the position is an asset.

Requirements:

  • 2-Step TB Test or Chest X-Ray prior to hire
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated no later than 6 months prior to date of
  • Up-to-Date Immunization
  • Current First Aid and CPR-
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Routine and Additional
  • Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Protection of Personal Health Information Act
  • Excellent leadership, organization, critical-thinking, problem-solving, analysis, and computer
  • Fluent in both written and spoken
  • Availability for “On-Call” duties during Outbreaks and as required by Nursing Management
  • Knowledge of First Nations history, language, and culture an
  • Experience with Program Development and Adult Education delivery

Salary Range: $62,829.00 – $95,121.00
