Summer Student – Maintenance Helper

Position Summary:
Wiigwas Elders and Senior Care is seeking a dependable and motivated Summer Student to assist the Environmental Services team with general home and property maintenance duties throughout the summer. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in building and property maintenance while contributing to the care and comfort of Elders and Seniors.
Overview of Duties:
- Assist with general home and property maintenance tasks.
- Receive and organize deliveries, verifying items and storing them appropriately.
- Help monitor and maintain adequate supply inventory for maintenance needs.
- Participate in implementing preventative maintenance routines.
- Conduct basic safety checks and minor repairs on resident equipment.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
- Use tools and equipment properly and safely, including ladders.
- Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be a student returning to school in the fall (secondary or post-secondary).
- Interest in hands-on work such as maintenance, trades, or building operations.
- Ability to follow directions, work independently, and manage time effectively.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in various conditions.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, climb ladders, and perform manual tasks.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated no later than 6 months from date of hire.
- Excellent organization, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and computer skills.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Knowledge of First Nations history, language, and culture an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as a Wiigwas Elders and Seniors team member.
