Summer Student- Dietary Aide

Position Summary:
Wiigwas Elders and Senior Care is currently seeking a Summer Student to join our Dietary Services team. This is a valuable opportunity for a student who is interested in healthcare, nutrition, or hospitality to gain hands-on experience working in a supportive, elder-focused environment.
Overview of Duties:
- Assist with meal service following nutritional guidelines and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Practice proper portion control and food handling in accordance with H.A.C.C.P. standards.
- Support residents during mealtimes, including use of adaptive aids and container opening.
- Monitor and help maintain kitchen inventory and supplies.
- Ensure a clean and sanitary environment within food service areas.
- Interact respectfully and professionally with residents, families, and staff.
- Respond to resident concerns within the scope of the role or notify the Dietary Manager.
- Follow safety, sanitation, and infection prevention procedures at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be a student returning to school in the fall (secondary or post-secondary).
- Enrollment in or interest in a Food Service Worker program is an asset.
- Completion of a recognized Food Handler Training Program preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs and perform manual tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with seniors.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated no later than 6 months from date of hire.
- Excellent organization, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and computer skills.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Knowledge of First Nations history, language, and culture an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as a Wiigwas Elders and Seniors team member.
