Position: Activation Aide – CASUAL (Union Position)

Responsible To: Programs Manager

Wage: Starting at $25.80, per UFCW Collective Agreement

Posted: March 4, 2025 – Position will remain open until filled.

Overview of Duties:

  • Coordinating, planning activities, communicating programs, purchasing supplies, decorating, setting up, facilitates, overseeing and assisting residents, cleaning up, documenting, and evaluating programs.
  • Actively and effectively facilitating programs in the home including but not limited to, small and large groups and special events that meet the needs of the residents.
  • Completing resident assessments and establishing goals and interventions based on the residents’ identified needs and concerns.
  • Completing documentation related to programming including but not limited to assessment, attendance, progress notes, care plans, and quarterly reviews.
  • Seeking opportunities to collaborate with other therapy programs i.e., pet therapy, music therapy, art therapy, and to connect the long-term care residents with external community partners.
  • Conduct evaluation of practices using measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated patient-family-care partner focus relationships.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the First Nation culture.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in activation, recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology, social work or other related field from a community college or university or current enrolment in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field, or a combination of education and experience will be reviewed.
  • Understands the concepts of health and wellness as it pertains to therapeutic recreation principles.
  • I.E.C.E.S.TM and/or U-FIRST an asset
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) basics training minimum
  • Current Standard and/or Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Mental Health First Aid for Seniors Training an asset
  • Indigenous Cultural Competency knowledge and/or training
  • Food Handlers Certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Experience working within an interprofessional team model; long term care setting preferred
  • Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector dated no more than 6 months prior to date of hire.
  • Satisfactory TB screening (2-Step or chest x-ray).
